Dr. M. Gene Henderson, professor emeritus and former dean of education at Lindenwood, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016, in St. Louis, Mo.
He served as superintendent of schools in Martinsville and Chamois, Mo., from 1961 to 1965. In 1965, he accepted the position of superintendent of the Francis Howell School District and served until 1981, when he accepted a position as dean of education at Lindenwood Colleges. He retired from Lindenwood in 1991.
A memorial service will be held March 5 at 2:00 p.m., at M. Gene Henderson Elementary School, 2501 Hackmann Road in St. Charles, Mo. Attendees are asked to assemble at 3:30 p.m. for music and an opportunity to share memories of Dr. Henderson.
Colleagues, students, and friends of Dr. Henderson are invited to share memories about their years with Dr. Henderson. Please email the writings to email@example.com for inclusion in a booklet to be offered at his memorial. Writings will also be accepted at the memorial to be included in a second edition of the booklet. Contributions to a planned Henderson Scholarship, in lieu of flowers, will also be accepted at the memorial.
Dr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Barbara Adelblue; three children, Ben, Jenny, and Belinda Henderson; his daughter-in-law, Colleen Henderson; three grandchildren, Ryan McNeely, Patrick McNeely, and Alexandra Henderson Greer, wife of Dustin Greer; and two great-grandchildren, Faith and Cora Greer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Henderson, his son, David Henderson, and his brother, Jim Henderson.
