A team of students from Lindenwood University’s Robert W. Plaster School of Business & Entrepreneurship was one of six from Missouri and Illinois to take part in the Certified Financial Analysts Society of St. Louis competition on Feb. 17 at Edward D. Jones in St. Louis.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global competition that tests the equity research and valuation, investment report writing, and presentation skills of university students.
The team consisted of Carlos Morantes, Laia Pons, Andrea Fiallos, Ivan Stankovic, and Mitch Faulkner. Dr. Gaurango Banerjee and the Finance Department sponsored and prepared the team, which submitted a detailed written report on Spire Inc. and then made a presentation to a live audience, at which it was very well received. The teams had to perform a detailed financial analysis of Spire Inc. and make a final recommendation of buy/sell/hold on the company stock.
“The CFA competition is an outstanding opportunity for our finance students to gain practical experience with analytics and is one of many ways PSB&E students have to take part in experiential learning,” said Molly Hudgins, associate dean of the Plaster School of Business.
