Lindenwood University’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts will welcome back the Russian National Ballet Theatre performing its rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet on January 21, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. in The Bezemes Family Theater.
Seating is assigned and tickets are available for $26.50 to 54.50 at the Lindenwood Box Office (636-949-4433) or online at www.lindenwoodcenter.com. The Box Office and The Bezemes Family Theater are located in Lindenwood’s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts, located at 2300 West Clay St., just west of First Capitol Drive in St. Charles.
The first act of the evening will feature Chopiniana, which grew out of Chopin’s Seventh Waltz and premiered on February 23, 1907. The favorite oeuvre of its creator, Mikhail Fokine, this work has now become standard repertoire for many of the world’s leading theatres. The second act will feature the full-length ballet Romeo and Juliet with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and original choreography by Marius Petipa.
Shakespeare’s tragic tale of the doomed lovers Romeo and Juliet is beautifully translated to music and dance in this highly dramatic and visually stunning production featuring more than 50 dancers upholding the grand tradition of Russian ballet.
The Russian National Ballet Theatre has received acclaim in publications around the world, including the Washington Post.
