Win over Baker Gives Lady Lions Conference Title

Lindenwood's women's basketball team won the Heart of America Athletic Conference title Saturday, February 19 with a 91-62 home victory over Baker.

The win gives Lindenwood University a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

"We need to savor the day," said Coach Dave Witter. "This type of thing doesn't come along very often."

The victory gave Lindenwood its first conference title since leaving the American Midwest Conference back in 1996 and joining the HAAC.

Senior center Jaime Bonney was again the leader of Lindenwood's attack, finishing with 27 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Donna Simon had 16 points and junior guard Katie Cannon scored 11.

Lindenwood has a first-round bye in the HAAC tournament and plays the winner of the Tuesday, February 22 matchup between Culver-Stockton and Baker on Feb. 24. That game will be played at Lindenwood. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

The Lady Lions finished 14-4 in conference play and have an overall record of 25-5.
