The United States armed forces are what keeps this country safe and makes our freedom possible. If you are interested in pursuing the United States Army or United States Air Force as a career, Lindenwood University offers you a path to leadership within their ranks.

Lindenwood University has agreements with Washington University and St. Louis University that makes the Army and Air Force ROTC Basic courses available to qualified Lindenwood students. These separate programs enable students to earn appointment as commissioned officers in the United States Army or the United States Air Force respectively. If you are interested in pursuing these opportunities, consult with the appropriate Army or Air Force ROTC advisor. Any academic major may apply.

Earning a Degree in Military Science and Aerospace Studies at Lindenwood University

The Army ROTC program

The 24 credit hour program is offered in conjunction with Washington University. The Army ROTC program requires the following courses: MS 10100, MS 10200, MS 20100, MS 20200, MS 30100, MS 30200, MS 40100, MS 40200, and MS 45000.

Note: Students must complete these courses in numerical order. Students must be contracted to go into MS 30000 and 40000 level courses. Students must also have completed U.S. basic training or complete the lower level MS courses in order to be contracted.

Simultaneous Membership Program/Reserve Officer Training Corps (SMP/ROTC):

If you are currently a member of the Missouri Army National Guard, you can participate in ROTC to earn your commission as an officer in the U.S. Army, obtain a bachelor’s degree in a field of your choice, and have a guaranteed obligation with the Missouri Army National Guard. Special financial incentives and entitlements are available. See Financial Aid.

Air Force ROTC (AES) Aerospace Studies

The 20 credit hour program is offered in conjunction with St. Louis University. The Air Force ROTC program requires the following courses: AES 10100, AES 10200, AES 11000, AES 11200, AES 20100, AES 20200, AES 30100, AES 302, AES 40100 and AES 40200.

Earning a Minor in Military Science and Aerospace Studies at Lindenwood University

You have the option of earning a minor in military science or aerospace studies at Lindenwood University. A minor is simply a secondary academic subject to add to your knowledge, whether it is of professional or personal interest. When you choose the military science or aerospace studies minor, you will study leadership, the history of your chosen armed forces branch, and other topics. Please see the specifics of each minor listed below.

A minor in military science may be earned by completion of 21 hours of coursework from the following: MS 30100, MS 30200, MS 40100, MS 40200, plus nine credit hours from MS 10100, MS 10200, MS 20100, MS 20200, HIS 20700, HIS 21400, HIS 33800, REC 11300, and REC 12500.

A minor in aerospace studies may be earned by completion of 20 hours of coursework from the following: AES 10100, AES 10200, AES 20100, AES 20200, HIS 11700, HIS 11701, HIS 34400, REC 11300, and REC 12500.
