Focused Fiction Workshop: Revision Workshop

Instructor: Kali VanBaale

Class Type: Workshop

Course Description:
This online workshop will focus on the creation and revision of a single piece of fiction. Each student will submit up to 12 pages of a short story or novel chapter(s) for the first workshop session to receive rigorous feedback from peers and the instructor. Students will then revise the piece using the workshop feedback as a guide, and resubmit the same piece in the second workshop session. Through this process, we'll see how each work evolves, changes, and becomes more polished, and also have the chance to discuss and evaluate how critical feedback itself functions in the creative process.

Students will be required to read and respond to 3-4 peer submissions per week, along with short recommended reading examples. There will also be writing and reading assignments between workshop sessions.

The goal is for each student to finish the course with a deeper understanding of the revision process, and a highly polished piece of fiction.

All fiction genres welcome.
