The early childhood special education certification at Lindenwood University teaches you to identify unique needs or disabilities in children and learn how to differentiate learning styles to ensure a quality education for all students.  In this program you will learn the facets of emotional and intellectual development for the young child, from birth to third grade, and how to incorporate this knowledge into a classroom that benefits children of diverse learning needs.  You will also have field experience working with children and experienced teachers within the field of early childhood special education. 

All students must pass the Missouri Content Assessment to be placed for student teaching.

Earning a Degree in Education with Early Childhood Certification at Lindenwood University

Lindenwood University offers a bachelor of arts (BA) in education with early childhood special education certification, which requires 74-76 credit hours in early childhood education, 15 credit hours special education, and 26-27 credit hours of additional coursework. You will study subjects such as perceptual motor development, analysis and correction of reading disabilities, and language acquisition and development for young children.

You must pass all sections of the Missouri General Education Assessment to be admitted into the Department of Teacher Education. This assessment is a certification requirement.

If you pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), you should meet with your advisor to review your undergraduate transcript to determine which courses meet the Missouri certification requirements.
