Biographical Information

Dr. Blythe received his B.S. in Computer and Information Sciences with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Delaware in 1990. After working as a programmer for Certainteed Corporation, he pursued graduate studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.  In 1994, he completed his M.S. in Computer Science with a thesis on educational tools for visualizing parsing of formal languages. His Ph.D. thesis, entitled "Design Space Exploration in High Level Synthesis" was completed in 1997 under the tutelage of Dr. Robert A. Walker, also at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Since completing his graduate work in Computer Science, Dr. Blythe has been an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at St. Louis University (St. Louis, MO) and Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville (Edwardsville, IL). He joined the faculty at Lindenwood University as an Associate Professor of Computer Science in 2009.

While at Lindenwood, Dr. Blythe has taught courses such as:

  • Introduction to Computer Science (in Jython or JavaScript)
  • Computer Science I (in C++ or Java)
  • Discrete Structures
  • Database Systems
  • GUI Design
  • Agile Development
  • Computer Networks
  • Senior Projects
  • Compiler Construction
  • Basic Statistics

When not teaching or researching, Dr. Blythe has performed various other duties, including:

  • System administration of department Linux machines
  • Coaching Lindenwood programming contest teams
  • Advising the student Computer Science Club
  • Serving on the University Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Serving on the school Faculty Scholarship and Research Committee
  • Assisting with school outreach activities

With whatever spare time he has left, Dr. Blythe can be found:

  • Reading
  • Tinkering with Lego robotics
  • Jogging
  • Traveling
  • Spending time with the three most amazing children in the world
