Augmenting the academic program, the Honors College annually presents student and faculty discussion sessions analyzing current events and perennial issues. Becoming an Honors Scholar
Students are recognized as being Honors Scholars only if they have enrolled in the Honors College, maintain a 3.3 GPA, and take courses for Honors Credit.
University Honors
The Honors College offers students a special opportunity to graduate with University Honors that are recognized both in ceremony and on the transcript of graduating seniors. University Honors from the Honors College are the highest honors bestowed on graduating seniors.
University Honors are reserved for exceptional students who demonstrate intelligence, initiative and perseverance in fulfilling requirements beyond those asked of others. Meeting these expectations exhibits their commitment to excellence.
To graduate as an Honors Scholar, a student must complete 24 hours of honors credit, 18 hours of which must be in classes 200 and above. Students must enroll in the Honors College to be eligible for the Honors Scholar designation.
Gaining Honors Credit
Honors College credit is noted on the student's transcript with the designation "Honors" in preceding the course title. All courses offered at the University are available for honors credit. Honors Scholars must request permission of the professor and must complete a mutually agreed upon honors project suitable to the course.
Degree Honors
The Lindenwood faculty awards general honors to those undergraduate students who have completed all degree requirements with academic distinction. In order to be eligible for general honors, a student must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours in residence at Lindenwood University. “In residence” hours are produced by taking graded Lindenwood courses. Transfer and experiential learning credits do not count as “in residence” semester hours. Students whose Lindenwood cumulative grade point averages fall within the following ranges are eligible:
•The student who achieves a cum. grade point average between 3.70 and 3.85 receives the degree cum laude.
•The student whose cum. grade point average is between 3.86 and 3.93 receives the degree magna cum laude.
•The student who achieves a cum. grade point average of 3.94 or above receives the degree summa cum laude.
Course Honors
With permission of the instructor, any student is eligible to gain honors credit in any course offered a the University. However, only students enrolled in the program are eligible to graduate from the Honors College with University Honors.
Individual Achievement Awards
Each year at the honors convocation, Lindenwood University bestows sixty-one awards on students who exhibit leadership, high academic performance, and professional promise. These awards recognize high achieving individuals in the various academic and professional disciplines as well as the visual and performing arts of music, dance and theater. Special recognition is also given to students who combine athletic skill with high academic achievement.
