The Lindenwood University Writing Center, established in 2000, provides help with all aspects of the writing process for the students and faculty of the Lindenwood campus community. The Writing Center emphasized a personalized, collaborative approach that helps each writer to gain both confidence and competence in his or her writing skills. The Writing Center also provides a unique and valuable learning experience for those students working as Writing Consultants.
Writing Center Services
Students are encouraged to stop by and work with Writing Consultants to learn how to improve writing skills.
The LU Writing Center can help students to:
- Select a topic
- Gather information
- Develop a working thesis statement
- Organize an outline
- Organize a rough draft
- Support a thesis
- Integrate documentation
|
The Writing Consultants will also show students how to:
- Revise a rough draft
- Edit spelling mistakes
- Find grammatical errors
- Recognize areas that need rewording
- Locate documentation resources
|
The Writing Consultant’s role is to help students improve writing skills by answering questions regarding writing mechanics, organization and content. The Writing Consultant will not “fix” the paper for students seeking assistance. This includes correcting spelling errors, correcting grammar errors, re-wording a thesis statement, or making corrections of any kind. The Writing Center services are provided to show a student “how to” identify and correct these issues him or herself.
