Program Objectives

Dance01Dance faculty members are dedicated to providing dance majors a well-rounded and useful education that will serve as the foundation for lifelong professional achievements and satisfaction. 

To that end, the following student learning objectives have been created to guide students and faculty over a four-year course of study toward substantive success:

  • In varied contexts, the graduate is able to perform dances of diverse structure and sophistication artistically.      
  • In varied contexts, the graduate is able to perform dances of diverse structure and sophistication with superior artistry.
  • For authentic purposes of diverse structure and sophistication, the graduate is able to create dances effectively.
  • For authentic purposes and contexts of diverse structure and sophistication, the graduate is able to produce (plan, prepare, direct, and manage) dance performances effectively.  
  • From historical, cultural, theoretical,  artistic, and interdisciplinary perspectives, the graduate is able to accurately analyze and describe dances and dance performances of diverse structure and sophistication.
  • The graduate is able to evaluate dances and dance performances of diverse structure and sophistication conceptually and coherently.
  • In contexts of diverse structure and sophistication, the graduate is able to teach dance proficiently.     
  • In diverse K-12 contexts, the graduate is able to teach dance professionally.
