Dr. Bill Hammond

Instructor - French Horn, World Music

Dr. William Hammond is a graduate of the Ohio State University with graduate degrees (M.M and EdD) from Boston University as well as a Fullbright scholar in Japan. He has performed professionally as a French hornist with the Mantovani Orchestra, Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler, and the Boston Opera under Sarah Caldwell. He has also performed in regular seasons as asst. 1st horn with Columbus Symphony, also solo horn with the Erie (PA) Philharmonic, and  as an alternate  horn with the Boston and St. Louis Symphonies. He has also performed as hornist with the New American Woodwind Quintet appearing in both European and Asian tours and also in the United States –notably in Carnegie Hall.

Dr. Hammond has studied under James Stagliano and Harry Shapiro (Boston Symphony), Joseph Singer (New York Philharmonic), Barry Tuckwell and natural horn ( the 18th century valveless precursor of the modern French horn) with internationally renowned scholar Horace Fitzpatrick in England.  He has given numerous solo performances including the first natural horn recital at Carnegie Hall (reviewed favorably in the New York Times.

He has taught French horn, music theory and non-western music at 4 major universities and is currently a visiting professor at Lindenwood University.
