Cheerleading - About the Program - Return to Previous Page
The Lindenwood University Cheerleading Program

The Lindenwood University cheerleading program combines hard work, dedication, and teamwork to make up one of the country's top cheerleading programs. Under the tutelage of head coach Carrie Nichols and assistant coach Kelsi Maher, the Lindenwood Cheerleading program has become one of the elite programs in the country. The program brings three teams to the table: Large Coed, Small Coed, and All-Girl. The Small Coed team was introduced to Lindenwood during the 2007-2008 school year. This is the first time in the school's history that there has been three squads, the newest being Small Coed. The All-Girl team competed nationally for the first time in Lindenwood's history at the NCA Collegiate Nationals in 2006. They made a name for themselves as one of the top-10 D-2 All-Girl teams in the country. The All-girl team also placed first in the conference in 2005 and 2006. LU Coed has finished in the top-five in the nation at NCA Collegiate Nationals each of the past five years as well as in the top-10 the two previous years. Recently, the LU Large Coed team brought home a third-place finish in 2006 and were named National Runners-Up in 2007. Coed has also set the bar high at the HAAC placing first-place every year since 2003. The Overall Program Award has also been awarded to the Lindenwood Spirit Program every year since 2004.

The Lindenwood Cheerleaders are also extremely active in the community. The squad members spend some of their free time judging many local competitions and high-school tryouts throughout the year as well as holding clinics for high schools and club squads year-round. LU also performs for elementary schools, high schools, Special Olympics and All-Star Cheerleading competitions. The squad has recently been showcased by a local news station to display their numerous skills and spirit. They have also been asked to attend presidential rallies in the area.

Community service and competition are only two parts of many that enhance the squad's school spirit. The cheerleaders attend and perform at all home football and basketball games as well as a select amount of games from other sports. The squad also enjoys performing at pep-rallies, Freshman Orientation, and many other exciting school functions.

The squad annually holds tryouts in the late spring where participants are encouraged to show as many skills as they can. Lindenwood has some of the top cheerleading scholarships in the country! Some of the skills that the judges look for are standing and running tumbling, jumps, and all girl and coed stunting.
