Since moments after the NFL draft last April, when former LU star DeDe Dorsey signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, every waking moment has been spent in pursuit of the long shot - earning a spot on head coach Marvin Lewis's opening day roster as an undrafted rookie free agent.
Well, that didn't happen for the Lions' three-time All-American. The Bengals decided to expose Dorsey to the waiver wire, even after he enjoyed a solid, sometimes spectacular preseason camp, earning praise from his veteran teammates, and even a flashy nickname from the Bengals' fans: "3D". The Cincinnati plan was to resign Dorsey to their eight-man practice squad after the 24 hour waiver period had passed.
It's said that no door ever closes without another one opening, and so it was for Dorsey, as the opportunistic Indianapolis Colts, lean at running back and looking for speed, jumped on the Bengals' gamble and signed him on Sunday afternoon.
Judging by reaction on the Bengals' fan forums, the decision not to keep Dorsey is not a popular one in Cincnnati. Colts' fans are still trying to find out what kind of gem the team may have uncovered, with hits from Colt fan forums pouring into the LU Football website all day on Monday
Here is a link to a story on the Colt Power website which talks about the Dorsey signing:.
Colts Add Two, Waive Two
Dorsey's debut for head coach Tony Dungy's team will be on national television this Sunday night, as the Colts face off with the New York Giants.
