The Lions went looking for big receivers top stock their no-huddle spread offense, and found a potentially great one in 6'5" Lathrop product Matt Holt (5), a first team All-State on both sides of the ball; Josh Gossard (25) was team captain of one of the Midwest's top high school programs at Sacred Heart Griffin in Springfield, Ill., and he'll line up at cornerback for the Lions as a collegian.
Lathrop's Dillon Stonum (8) is one of more intriguing athletes in the Lions' freshman class - the 6'4, 180-pounder posted some of the best testing numbers (35" vertical, 4.6 40, 10'2" standing long jump) of any player in the state during the summer combine circuit leading up to his senior year; Union (Mo.) High School standout Jed Nieder (right) was a star on both sides of the ball for head coach Brent Eckley's team, scoring 19 touchdowns on 84 pass receptions, and he'll begin his Lion career in the defensive secondary.
First team All-State safety Cory Rowe (18) from New Madrid County Central tallied nine interceptions as a senior; rugged Pattonville offensive lineman Stephen Franklin (right) impressed LU coaches at their camp last summer.
