Sport Performance Counseling Services
Sport Performance Services integrates psychological concepts and the use of psychological theory within the sport domain to facilitate the emotional development and strengthen the mental skills of athletes so that they can perform at their optimal level within their chosen sport. The physical and mental aspects of sport are so dependent on each other for success that it is crucial for athletes to understand how these properties interact. When an athlete’s thoughts or emotions become unstable or unbalanced his/her physical skills can suffer. Athletes often times spend tremendous amounts of time and energy on perfecting their physical skills; yet many fall short of achieving their goals because they lack the mental preparation and the cognitive skills to compete. The
Sport Performance Counseling Services offered via the
Student Counseling and Resource Center LUCC Rm. 301 (636-949-4528) adopts the goal to educate each Student-Athlete and Coaches on core sport performance skills and concepts that will help create and promote emotional balance and well-being, focus, intensity, self-confidence and control, self-efficacy and awareness, and optimal performance consistency.
