Earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science
As an exercise science major, you’ll take classes in exercise physiology, biomechanics, fitness assessment and exercise prescription, energy sources, and strength and conditioning. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning through several courses that allow you to apply what you’ve learned in the lab or through an internship.
Internships in exercise science are an excellent way to experience what it’s like on the job and work directly with others in the field before you graduate. You’ll earn course credits while making important connections with other exercise science professionals.
What to do with an Exercise Science Degree
The BS in exercise science equips you with the knowledge and skills you need to work in a host of professional settings, such as health and fitness centers, hospital-based health and wellness programs, corporate-based health and wellness programs, cardiac rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and allied health areas. You’ll also have a strong foundation for advanced study in related fields like occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, medicine, and chiropractic medicine.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for exercise physiologists are on the rise, with a projected growth rate of 11 percent through 2024. The median annual salary for this position is $47,010.
