Professional Counseling Licensure Information

The Professional Counseling Program at Lindenwood University is designed to meet the academic requirements toward licensure as a Professional Counselor set forth by the states of Illinois and Missouri. Upon completion of the Program, students may choose to pursue licensure as a Professional Counselor.  Professional licensure is regulated by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Missouri Committee for Professional Counselors. Students applying for licensure as a Professional Counselor will need to verify graduate coursework completed at Lindenwood University. Students should explicitly follow the application requirements of the state in which they are applying.

The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) has announced that they have set a target date of April 10, 2014, to include the new materials from the fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) in the licensure exams (National Counselor Exam and National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Exam).

The exams are owned by National Board of Certified Counselors, but the questions are developed by CCE, an affiliate of NBCC.

The Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association will be offering several workshops on the DSM-5 across Illinois, including Nov 15, 2013, in Oak Brook and Nov 16, 2013, in Northbrook.
