The Old Peace Chapel is a charming relic of local Americana. Built originally in New Melle in the mid 1800s, the building served as a general store, dance hall, and eventually a church.

In 1904, the Deutsche Evangelische Friedens Kirche formed.

In 1905, the congregation purchased property owned by John and Laura Koelling and the store building was renovated into a sanctuary.

In 1934, as a result of a merger, the congregation became known as Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church.

In 1957, the Church became Friedens United Church of Christ and held services in the New Melle location until costruction plans of the new Church began in the 1970s.

The Building was relocated from the New Melle location to Boonesfield Village in 1983.

Today the building is known as The Old Peace Chapel and is the heart of Boonesfield Village and a highlight of the tour.

The Old Peace Chapel is a blend of original and historic reconstruction.

Old Peace Chapel, with seating for 100 people, is a popular place for vow renewals, weddings, baptisms, christenings, and other spiritual events. For more information or to book the chapel, call the chapel coordinator at 636-798-2903 or email
