Based on the short stories by Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls portrays the hustle and bustle of a whimsical New York City. The story explores the city’s underworld of gambling and the colorful characters that inhabit it, as well as the “Do Gooders” who try to save these poor souls from their evil ways.
Nathan Detroit is the lovable leader who runs the illegal crap games. He is eager to organize a wild evening of gambling and mischief when he hears that the notorious Sky Masterson is in town. The sinfully handsome Masterson is the king of dice and charisma. The story quickly takes off when Sky bets Detroit that he can get any gal. Detroit accepts and cleverly chooses Sarah Brown, the conventional and conservative leader of the Save-A-Soul Mission, to be Sky’s date.
Is love really possible between the independent high rolling gambler and the motivated good girl who wishes to save all sinners? Arguably the “most perfect musical comedy ever written,” Guys and Dolls will take the audience from the heart of Times Square to the sewers of New York.
