Founded in 1860, the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra continues to serve the St. Louis Metro Area as a vital and viable cultural institution. This historical orchestra is composed of approximately 90 talented and dedicated musicians who have successfully auditioned for positions in the orchestra.
Unique in the country, the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra is an all-volunteer, self-governing, self-sustaining not-for-profit organization. Its mission dictates that is provide musical opportunities of participation to gifted young people and that its classical season of four concerts is open to the public without charge in an effort to engage and encourage recreation and education, as well as attendance and support within the community. Soloists include the choirs of Lindenwood University; Richard Hirschl, cellist; and Lawrence Neuman, violist.
