Program Description
Lindenwood University offers a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Lindenwood University’s Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, CAATE.
This program is designed to prepare athletic training students to succeed on the Board of Certification (BOC) examination and become Certified Athletic Trainers, ATC. The student must complete the required coursework and 1,600 contact hours with an ATC and/or clinical instructor. During the 1,600 hours, the students successfully complete the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Educational Competencies and Clinical Proficiencies; the remaining contact hours will be completed during field experiences in various athletic training settings.
The ATEP at Lindenwood University is a competitive program requiring an application and interview for new applicants in the spring of their freshman year. Transfer students are required to apply and interview prior to starting the semester. This rigorous and intense program places specific requirements and demands on the students accepted in the program. All students are required to have a physical exam prior to admittance, and verify they understand and meet the technical standards or believe that, with certain accommodation, they can meet the standards to be accepted in the ATEP.
Once accepted, the athletic training students will assist in practice, game and athletic training room coverage. As a sophomore, junior, and senior, the athletic training students will have a specific team to work with and must be dedicated to attend practices, games and assist in the athletic training room. Students may be given the opportunity to travel with teams off campus as a first responder. With over 40 sports, the athletic training students will have versatile and extensive experience with various sports ranging from non-contact to equipment intensive, men’s and women’s teams, and individual and team sports. Also, as a senior, the athletic training students will do three 50 hour internships at different athletic
training settings, with transportation at their own expense.
