The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments (MEGA) website offers comprehensive information about new assessment requirements, we encourage you to check  http://dese.mo.gov/eq/ep/ often.

Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments (MEGA) Memo from the Missouri Director of Educator Preparation.

The Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) will replace the CBASE requirement in fall 2013. See this MoGEA link for more information.

Those completing a student teaching application in January 2014 should complete the Missouri Educator Profile (MEP) and upload their score report to Foliotek. The MEP assesses work styles and compares the candidate’s score to practicing teachers in the state of Missouri.  After taking the online assessment, candidates immediately receive a detailed score report that they should review with their adviser.  The fee for this DESE required assessment is $22. Please go to this website to take the MEP.

Starting fall 2013, students in EDU 21501 will take the MEP in class. Initial certification candidates will take this as a pre and a post assessment (in EDU 21501 and as part of the student teaching application).

Those candidates student teaching in fall 2014 will be required to take the Missouri Pre-Service Teacher Assessment (MoPTA) even if they have passed the Praxis II.  The Praxis II will be replaced by the new Pearson content assessments in fall 2014.  The MoPTA is a performance assessment that will be externally scored during student teaching. For more information about the MoPTA, click here

"Teaching and Leading as an Art and a Science"
The School of Education agrees that the general outcome of the teacher education program must be teaching professionals that believe and implement teaching as a blend of “Art” and “Science” as represented by the Beauty and Mechanism of the Spellmann Clock Tower… Teaching as an art because teaching is a craft that must be learned and applied in an authentic environment. Teaching as a science because it must be influenced by research and best practice for optimal student learning to be achieved.
