There are several steps you must complete in order to apply for financial aid. Follow these steps and you will be on your way to completing the process.

FREE Application for Federal Student Aid
1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or renewal application and mail it to the processing center as early as possible. You may also apply via the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Lindenwood University school code is 002480. Your application must be complete by March 15 to be considered for maximum assistance.

Mapping Your Future’s Online Student Loan Counseling
2. Entrance Counseling: Any student who wants to apply for federal loans must complete entrance counseling. You are free to choose any lender that participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). Regardless of you choice of lender, you may complete this counseling online with Mapping Your Future's Online Student Loan Counseling. If you have borrowed previously, we suggest you consider remaining with that lender or another lender that works with your same servicer. If you do select a different lender or servicer, be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of your decision.

LU strongly encourages all students to research various loan programs and benefits associated with each. The Financial Aid Office will strive to process your loan quickly and accurately regardless of the lender you choose. For other lender options or questions about receiving a student loan, please contact your financial aid representative at 636-949-4923.

3. Master Promissory Note (MPN): Once you have completed the entrance counseling you will be directed to the Master Promissory Note for completion.

4. Alternative Loans: A Federal Stafford may not provide enough financing to meet your educational needs. An alternative educational loan can play a major role to fill the gap. If you are considering an alternative loan to supplement your educational expenses, you should do some research and consider asking a few smart questions to assist you in the decision process.

• How much may I borrow?
• What are the fees associated with the loan?
• What is the interest rate on the loan?
• What are the terms of repayment?
• How much will my payments be?
• Do I need a co-signer?

Contact your lender of choice if you are interested in obtaining more information on alternative loans.

5. Other Forms: Every application is reviewed individually and may require additional information or the completion of additional documents. The Office of Financial Aid will notify you by mail of the necessary documents needed to complete the verification process. You can click and download some of the forms you might need.

6. Apply Early: The most important factor when applying for financial aid is to apply early. We recommend you file you FAFSA no later than March 15 to ensure you meet the access Mo. Grant deadline of April 1. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you need any assistance or have questions.
