The St. Louis/St. Charles region has long been recognized as not only one of the best communities in which to live and work, but also among the most generous. We know that without the work of our local philanthropists, many of the things we take for granted would not exist. Philanthropy is a substantial source of funding for groups in our region devoted to humanitarian, artistic, musical, or religious causes, all of which are critical to supporting creative expression, addressing essential societal needs, and sustaining a vibrant, engaged community.
The social need for corporate community investment and the business case for giving are both growing exponentially. In the business community, strategic partnerships are those relationships that are built among small and large businesses and community organizations to help one another grow. More than simply an investment in dollars, they represent an investment in growth opportunities for the company and the community. Considerable research exists to suggest that an opportunity missed to make a greater social impact -- which also bolsters stronger business performance -- is a missed opportunity, indeed. But the question often becomes, how can we develop synergy among these intentions in a way that will develop partnerships and outcomes representing true, mutual benefit? It was this question that led to the impetus of the Grow Philanthropy Summit.
In essence, the origins of Grow Philanthropy Summit grew out of a conversation between three individuals – Shanna, Victoria and Julie -- who through their professions and commitment to community service, wanted to provide a forum through which nonprofit and charitable organizations along with philanthropists and business owners could come together in one place and at one time. This forum would allow attendees an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations around philanthropic strategic partnerships and gain insight and strategies from best practices currently being used in the field. It is our hope that as a result of our collective participation at this event that we all will feel even better equipped and energized to continue or to embark on new strategies to foster economic growth and improve our communities and the lives of those we touch.
