Stress is one of the most overlooked, but detrimental reasons for a decline in health. By recognizing where stress comes from and what stress looks like, one can manage it and take control before stress takes over. It’s important to identify the sources of stress; this varies from individual to individual and can be considered good or bad. This is also known as eustress/positive stress or distress/negative stress. Whether stress is eustress or distress depends on how the individual handles it and whether or not the stress results in more productivity and success in one’s personal and professional life.
Types of Stress:
- Chronic: stressful situations seem unending and tear the life of the person apart in mind, body, and spirit. This type of stress is dangerous and unhealthy.
- Acute: occurs for a very short period and is the mostly widely experienced form. It is caused by daily demands and can actually bring excitement and joy to our lives.
- Episodic: acute stress that occurs on a regular basis. This is typically seen when people are self-inflicted, unreasonable, or unrealistic.
Helpful ways to stress less:
- Listen to music
- Take a walk
- Incorporate time to relax into your schedule
