Program Description
The programs in Nonprofit Administration at Lindenwood University are designed to prepare students for leadership and management positions in community and nonprofit organizations. The baccalaureate program is intended to serve a broad spectrum of career paths. Therefore, the major core combines a focus on nonprofit organizations with selected concentrations in a number of different practice settings. Students seeking to major in Nonprofit Administration will complete 26 credits in the core curriculum, nine credits of nonprofit electives, and an 18-21 credit emphasis area.
For students majoring in other related disciplines, such as social work, business administration, health management, education, political science, performing arts, psychology or sociology, the Nonprofit Administration program also offers the ability to minor in this program or to minor in Recreation and Leisure Services Management.
Students seeking to either major or minor in Nonprofit Administration must complete the focused core curriculum: NPA 100, 201, 300, 303, 350, 351, 360, 450, and 499 major and NPA electives 280, 371, 451, 493, 494, 495, and 489 plus four electives from over 11 electives.
Early Access to the M.A. Program in Nonprofit Administration
With approval from the Dean of Human Services Division and the Provost, students may take up to nine semester hours at the graduate level during their senior year. These hours will count toward the MA Degree in Nonprofit Administration but not toward the bachelor's degree. A student must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate classes each semester that he or she is taking MA credits under this option.
American Humanics, Inc.
American Humanics Inc. (AH) is a national nonprofit organization. Through its 85 affiliated campus programs, 19 affiliated national agencies, and 14 collaborating professional agencies, AH recruits, educates and places competent professionals in careers with nonprofit youth and human service agencies.
The nationally recognized program qualifies students who complete the training and coursework to become certified American Humanics graduates. Students are expected to attend non-credit activities and seminars sponsored by the American Humanics Student Association.
LU students seeking certification must participate in the AH Student Association for at least one semester and attend at least one AH Management Institute program. Program credit is given for both activities. Interested students should contact the Campus Executive Director of AH or the program manager of Nonprofit Administration to make application to this specialized certification.
National certification from AH is highly esteemed and prestigious honor. Students in the Nonprofit Administration degree program may earn their National Certification by adhering to program guidelines. Students from other degree programs may also pursue this certification by taking additional training in nonprofit leadership and management competencies.
