The Department of History and Geography offers three minors, in History, Public History, and Social Studies, and also houses an interdisciplinary minor in Medieval and Early Modern Studies.

The History minor exposes students to historical methodology and content beyond the General Education level.  It requires 18 credit hours of coursework.

The Social Studies minor is for history majors who plan to teach high school social studies.  The minor requires 18 credit hours of coursework and includes all of the non-history courses required for certification and one additional elective course.

The minor in Medieval and Early Modern Studies provides students an opportunity to focus, in an interdisciplinary context, on the medieval and early modern periods (from about 500 CE until about 1800 CE).  As students complete the minor, they will have opportunities to take classes in History, Art History, English, Foreign Languages, Music, Philosophy, and Religion.  The minor requires 21 credit hours of coursework.

Public History: The minor in Public History appeals to those who are interested in a career in history outside the classroom. Public history includes working in archives, research libraries, and museums, in historic preservation, at historic sites, and in any other institution in which historians interact with the public. The minor requires 18 credit hours of coursework.
