Prospective Students

Admission Requirements

MA in TESOL
  • Undergraduate degree in Linguistics, TESOL, English, or similar area
  • Minimum 3.00 undergraduate GPA (overall and major)
  • Personal statement of 200-250 words describing applicant’s interest in graduate TESOL studies
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to applicant’s academic achievements/potential
  • Academic writing sample (10-15 page research paper)
  • Two semesters of college-level foreign language instruction or successful completion of a foreign language proficiency exam (for domestic students only)
  • Minimum TOEFL score of 570 and successful completion of the University-administered English writing placement exam (for international students only)

Missouri K-12 ESOL Certification
  • A valid Missouri permanent or professional certificate of license to teach
  • Completion of Psychology and/or Education of the Exceptional Child Course (EDU 34100/54100)
  • Completion of Basic Reading Techniques for Secondary Teachers Course (EDU 30700/50700)
  • Two semesters of college-level foreign language instruction or successful completion of a foreign language proficiency exam (for domestic students only)
  • Minimum TOEFL score of 570 and successful completion of the University-administered English placement exam (for international students only)
