  • Staff members will retrieve and reshelf all material.
  • Material should remain flat on the table at all times.
  • Only one folder may be opened at any time.
  • Handle material carefully and keep it in order.
Photocopies or Scans
  • The Mary E. Ambler Archives reserves the right to limit which material can be reproduced based on the condition of the material, access restrictions, or copyright restrictions.
  • A limit may be placed on how much of a collection may be reproduced.
  • Photocopies cost 25¢ per page. Scans cost $1.00 per page.
  • Some material within the archives may fall within the "fair use" laws of the United States, meaning that it may be used for study or research purposes only. If a patron uses this material beyond "fair use," they may be liable for copyright infringement.
Publication of Primary Source Documents Owned by Lindenwood

If a patron desires to publish primary source material (exclusively owned by Lindenwood) beyond a simple quote, permission must be given by the University Archivist. In addition, Lindenwood may charge a fee to use this material in a publication.

Citing Documents and Manuscripts

Permission to cite documents in a footnote included in "fair use" research is implicitly granted to researchers at the time materials are made available, so long as the material referenced includes Lindenwood University in the credit.

Citation should use the following form:
Name of document, date, Name of Collection, Mary E. Ambler Archives,
   Lindenwood University.

An Example:
Letter of George Sibley to William Clark, 21 June 1809, George Sibley
Papers, Mary E. Ambler Archives, Lindenwood University.
