Homecoming and Reunion was a Rousing Success
Homecoming and Reunion 2009 was a big success with over 500 alumni in attendance. We welcomed alumni from every decade beginning in the 1930’s to the present and they traveled from Alabama, New York, California, Texas, Georgia, and New Hampshire to celebrate their honored class reunions!

The weekend began with campus bus tours for alumni. Immediately following the bus tours, the annual Alumni & Friends Reception was held in the Hyland Performance Arena. Over 150 alumni, friends, professors emeriti, faculty, and staff attended the event, which always serves as a memorable kick-off for the weekend’s festivities.
On Saturday the campus was brimming with activity. Over 125 alumni, students, and parents enjoyed the Breakfast with the President. Immediately following the breakfast, alumni gathered for the Annual Alumni Association Meeting.
In the late morning, alumni, students, parents, and townspeople lined the streets of the Lindenwood campus for the 2nd annual Homecoming & Reunion Parade. The parade was led by Grand Marshals Professor’s Groff Bittner and his wife, Fern Palmer (’57) Bittner, who was in charge of the equestrian program at Lindenwood for many years. President and Mrs. Evans, and members of the student Homecoming Court, were chauffeured in luxury cars that were generously donated by Plaza Motors in St. Louis.
Over 10 student organizations participated by preparing floats that embodied the homecoming theme of different decades of history. The floats were judged by St. Charles Alumni Club members, and the winning student group was awarded a cash prize by the Club for their efforts. The first place winner was, A Cross Between; second place, American Humanics/APO PHI Lambda PHI and YMCA; and third place was, The Vine-Catholic Student Union.
Following the parade, alumni and friends enjoyed visiting their former residence halls during student led campus tours. Many of the alums from earlier decades were surprised and pleased to see how much of Lindenwood’s historic campus remains well cared for.
Alumni, students, and parents joined in on tailgating festivities at the BBQ luncheon that was held in the parking lot of Harmon Hall. Guests enjoyed the live entertainment provided by a local musician and an afternoon of good food and conversation.
Mark your calendars and join us for next years Reunion on October 15-16, 2010!

More than 300 alumni, friends, students and community leaders attended an anniversary celebration on October 21 for Lindenwood University’s Belleville Campus, which included a groundbreaking for Lindenwood’s new Welcome Center.
Vice President Jerry Bladdick emceed the event, which included a ceremonial groundbreaking featuring Lindenwood President James D. Evans, Board of Directors Chairman Jim Shoemake, County Board Chairman Mark Kern, Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert, Architect Carolyn Green from William B. Ittner, Inc., Julie Mueller, Vice President for Operations and Finance, and Mary Radcliffe, Associate Vice President at Lindenwood University-Belleville.

“Lindenwood is a very welcoming community and I think it is only appropriate that our first construction project is a welcome center,” said Bladdick. “We are honored to have such wonderful support from the community.”
Lindenwood’s 3,000-square-foot Welcome Center will be attached to the school’s auditorium, which itself underwent a full renovation in 2005 and is currently used to host community performances and social events. The center will feature an expanded lobby area, additional restrooms, a small café, and exhibition and reception space upon its completion in 2010.
Lindenwood Men’s Basketball Season Begins
The Brad Soderberg era begins this week as the Lions open the season with a challenging stretch. The Lions have three games in four days, all against nationally-ranked programs who appeared in last year’s NAIA Division I National Tournament.
The week starts on Wednesday with a road game against No. 5 McKendree University and legendary coach Harry Statham in Lebanon, Ill. On Friday and Saturday, November 6-7, the program will host the Lindenwood Lion Pride Classic, a four- team event, including three nationally ranked-teams. The Lions will face the number one team in the NAIA, at the home opener on Friday, followed by a contest against No. 23 Life on Saturday. Concordia (Nebraska) will round out the field for the second annual tournament.
Come out and support the Lindenwood Lions as they are looking to make the national tournament at this level for the first time in 2009-2010! Single-game tickets are only $5 and may be purchased on game day, and season ticket packages are also available!
