Last Chance to Register for Homecoming & Reunion October 9-10

The 2009 Homecoming and Reunion is just around the corner, and the Alumni Office is looking forward to honoring the classes of 1949, 1959, 1969, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1999, and 2004.

Discover something old and something new at this year’s Reunion with events, such as, our traditional Friday night Alumni and Friends Reception, Saturday’s Homecoming parade, Alumni BBQ Luncheon, and Homecoming Football Game.

Homecoming and Reunion is a great opportunity to reunite with old friends, return to the beautiful Lindenwood campus, and enjoy the weekend’s festivities. We encourage all alumni to contact your former classmates and to attend this year’s events.

Lindenwood University-Belleville Campus Anniversary Celebration & Open House

We invite all alumni to join us on Wednesday, October 21, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. as well as the greater Belleville community, in celebrating the 6th anniversary of the opening of the Lindenwood-Belleville campus.

Please join us for free food, entertainment, campus tours, and the groundbreaking of the new campus Welcome Center. Mingle and network with alums and students, reminisce with your friends, former classmates and professors, and hear about the exciting things happening at the Belleville campus.

Lindenwood Athletics Weekly Newsletter Now Available

One of the features of the new athletics website at www.lindenwoodlions.com is that Lindenwood sports fans can subscribe to a weekly newsletter during the school year.

The newsletter will highlight the top athletic events that are coming up for the next week, and have a link to the “This Week In Lindenwood Athletics” story which briefly gives an update on every Lindenwood sports team that is currently in-season. The newsletter will also link to some of the top web stories over the past seven days.

Lindenwood University partners with Local Foundry Art Centre



The Foundry Art Centre invites the Lindenwood University alumni and community to experience the creativity, originality and diversity of the Foundry’s visual art exhibitions presented in the Smithsonian caliber Main Galleries. The Ameristar Emerging Artist Gallery showcases the work of promising new artists, and the Baue Family Children’s Gallery allows young people to discover new art forms. The Foundry’s twenty resident artists with working studios located inside the center, welcome visitors and offer a unique and personal view into the creative process. Upcoming events at the Foundry include The National Quilt Exhibition and the Foundry’s Fifth Anniversary Ville de Lumieres Gala on October 23, 2009. Lindenwood to Host Two Media Literacy Week Events

Lindenwood will observe Media Literacy week by hosting two forums during the week of October 4-10 in the Anheuser-Busch Leadership Room at the Spellmann Campus Center. “Creating Media Literacy Standards for the Upcoming Fifth Missouri Standards (MSIP) Cycle” will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, and “Creating Media Smart Students: Media Literacy for 21st Century Learning,” will take place from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 8. Teachers may earn one-graduate level credit by attending both presentations at Lindenwood.

Alumnus Michael Roberts to Speak at Event on October 21

An entrepreneur is defined as a visionary and a risk taker. That definition certainly is an excellent description of Michael Roberts. Since graduating from Lindenwood in 1971, Michael has been a successful entrepreneur, public official, author, and real estate developer. Michael and his brother Stephen co-founded Roberts-Roberts & Associates, a consulting and construction management firm. They also operate a highly successful broadcasting and wireless business.

On October 21, Michael Roberts will share his secrets of success as he presents "Building a Legacy and the Future for Emerging Entrepreneurs" starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Anheuser-Busch Leadership Room in the Spellmann Center. This lecture, the inaugural event in the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series hosted by the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, is free of charge and the public is invited. Center for International and Global Studies Speaker Series

Brian Frederking, an Associate Professor of Political Science at McKendree University, will be speaking about “Global Tribunals and International Criminal Law” on Wednesday, October 14, at 4:00 p.m. in the Spellmann Center Anheuser-Busch Leadership Room. His research interests include collective security and the United Nations Security Council. His publications include articles in American Political Science Review and International Studies Quarterly. His research emphasizes global attempts to deal with terrorism, weapons proliferation, and human rights abuses.

Info Sessions Scheduled for Evening Classes

Lindenwood University Belleville will host free, informative sessions about its accelerated evening degree programs through the Lindenwood College for Individualized Education (LCIE). Upcoming sessions are scheduled to take place from 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13; from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 15; from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21; from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27; and from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, in the main campus building.

Admissions counselors will offer information about the history of the university, benefits of the LCIE program, admission requirements, and financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply for classes following each session. Application fees will be waived for those who register on-site.

Fall Dance Concert to be held October 22-24

Be sure to put the Lindenwood Fall Dance Concert on your schedule. This concert will feature student and guest choreographed dances including a Michael Jackson Tribute, and a Broadway routine to You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray. Be sure to check out one of the premier dance ensembles in the Midwest region.

The Lindenwood Career Development Department invites all alumni to join us for a Career Networking Night on Monday, October 19, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm to be held in the Hyland Performance Arena VIP Room.

CATS Opens at J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts



There’s no better way to introduce your family to the wonders of live theater than the magic, the mystery, the memory of CATS. Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, CATS features 20 of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless melodies, including the hit song, “Memory.”

Join us for CATS and other performances this fall such as Mark Twain Tonight featuring Hal Holbrook, The Hobbit, Joan Osborne, The Holmes Bros., and Paul Thorn in Concert, Roger Williams, Jesus Christ Superstar, Swan Lake, and Shen Yun.

Daniel Boone Home & Boonesfield Village Hosts Halloween: Spirits of the Past Event

Alums are invited to travel back to a time where not everything is as it appears. Walk the lantern lit path to the Boone Home where stories of ghosts and goblins prickle your skin. In the village fear has begun to seep under the doors and through the windows. Hear its music and the tales of unexplained things in the night. Enjoy haunting music in the Boone Chapel, talk with a Mojo woman creating potions to ward off evil spirits, warm up by the bonfire, and listen to true stories and facts of Halloween. Join us October 24 from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm.

Caribbean Policy Expert will speak on Cuba



Daniel P. Erikson, Caribbean foreign policy expert, will speak on the future of Cuba in the second installment of the 2009-10 Lindenwood University Speaker Series. The presentation will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, in the Anheuser-Busch Leadership Room of the Spellmann Center.

Open to the public and free, the event is on Lindenwood’s main campus. The 2009-10 Speaker Series is sponsored by Lindenwood University and the St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau. Erikson’s speech is titled, “The Future of Cuba and What it Means to the United States.”
