Lindenwood University ALUMNI EVENTS LINDENWOOD Fall 2017 23 CAMPUS NEWS FACULTY SPOTLIGHT UPCOMING EVENTS LINDENWOOD SPORTS ALUMNI EVENTS AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS ALUMNI NEWS & NOTES ALUMNI ACTIVITIES ABOUND AT LINDENWOOD by JUDY FORSTMANN BROWN (’67) President, Lindenwood Alumni Association Students returning to the St. Charles campus this fall were greeted with a newly opened Library and Academic Resources Center at the corner of Kingshighway and First Capitol Drive. Years of planning and construction have produced a state-of-the-art facility. It is a rare and unique experience to open a new library on a university campus. The building is expected to become the academic and social hub on campus. Our beloved Butler Library, located on the heritage campus, will be repurposed for continued use still retaining its traditional charm and décor. The St. Charles campus alumni reunion theme is “Welcome to the Jungle.” Details of the October 13-15 event are on pages 12-13. Attendees will have an opportunity to view the new Library and Academic Resources Center while attending the Alumni Reception at Homecoming on Friday, Oct 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. The annual Alumni Association meeting will also be held in the Library and Academic Resources Center at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. On a personal note, my graduating class of 1967 will be celebrating our 50-year reunion. Members of the class of ’67 are urged to contact Michelle Giessman to get contact information for class agents Frances Scott Murphy and Karen Hutchinson Petkovich, who can provide you with details about special class events. Make your plans now to attend; there is something for everyone on this year’s agenda. Belleville will celebrate Homecoming by “Rolling out the Red Carpet” October 6-8. Alumni, parents, family members, and the community are all invited to share in the fun—including a parade! The Lindenwood University Alumni Board joins the Lindenwood community in mourning the passing of former Board of Directors Chairman James J. Shoemake. Mr. Shoemake passed away in June shortly after completing his term as chairman. He was an esteemed attorney and a man of honor and integrity who had a deep love for our university. He was a friend and staunch ally of the alumni. Dr. J. Michael Conoyor is the new chairman of the Board of Directors. Your Alumni Association Board looks forward to working with Dr. Conoyer on the continued advancement and growth of our institution as well as alumni interests. Two Lindenwood alumni, Nancy Calvert (’61) and Jane Calvert Rogers (’67), were honored with life memberships on the Lindenwood University Board of Directors at the July Board of Directors meeting. Nancy and Jane have devoted decades to the development and expansion of the university. Both held leadership positions chairing the Mission and Purpose and the Strategic Planning committees. We thank Nancy and Jane for their devotion and support of their alma mater and for maintaining the standards and values of a Lindenwood education. We look forward to their continued stewardship. Please contact Jennifer Ferguson, Belleville Alumni Relations and Special Events, at jferguson@lindenwood.edu or (618) 236-6033 for Belleville information.
