MUPC - Mascot & Logo

History of MUPC's Logo and Mascot

The Logo

MUPC - Logo

Northwest Missouri State University (Maryville, MO) created the logo to use as a crest for the very first MUPC conference t-shirts. The Psi symbol stands for psychology, and the logo features a silhouette of the state of Missouri. The lettering above the state that is in the shape of an arch, was not originally intended to resemble the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO, although in retrospect, we like to think it was.

For MUPC 2014, Lindenwood University's Office of Public Relations "recreated" the iconic logo to be a high resolution image for printed materials. For more information about this process, please contact Michiko Nohara-LeClair, PhD (mnohara-leclair@lindenwood.edu).

Mupsee the Mascot

To commemorate the hosting of the Fifth Annual MUPC conference (November 2009), members of the Lindenwood community were asked to submit designs for a possible conference mascot, "Mupsee," to be used to help promote the conference. Six designs were submitted, and a total of 51 student voters, drawn from members of the Lindenwood University Chapter of Psi Chi, the Psychology Interest Club, and students who were enrolled in research-related psychology courses at Lindenwood University voted on their favorite design.

The original mascot design chosen was designed by Eric Nohara-LeClair. The writing on Mupsee's body originally appeared in Greek letters. The Lindenwood MUPC Planning Committee members modified the letters on Mupsee's body so that it could easily be identified. Mupsee's feet were also outlined in black to help make them stand out. In 2009, Mupsee also made appearances in black and white as well as in different shades of grey as needed to accommodate printing requirements.

For MUPC 2013, with permission, Mupsee was modified to fit the host institution's mascot - Pirates "Sir George" of Park University.

For MUPC 2014, Lindenwood University decided to follow in the footsteps of Park University and had Mupsee redesigned to accommodate the Lindenwood, St. Charles campus mascot, the lion. The new look was designed by an undergraduate graphics design student, Alex Braun.
