'Dance Alive V' runs April 13-16

Lindenwood University's Dance Program will present its innovative and exciting Dance Alive V at 8 p.m. on April 13, 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. on April 16 at the Robert F. Hyland Performance Arena on Lindenwood's St. Charles campus (209 S. Kingshighway).

Tickets for the performance are $6 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. They will be sold at the door.

Rodin's massive sculpture, the dramatic "Burghers of Calais," comes to life in the powerful choreography of Stacy West, artistic director of the Mid America Dance Company, professional company in residence at Lindenwood. Jao-Hsun Tsench, a professional dancer from Taiwan and graduate student at Lindenwood, will perform a traditional Chinese folk dance and appear in faculty and student choreography.

Other high points include swing and jazz choreography in the Fosse style, choreographed by ballet instructor Janet Strzelec, and a look at women of the past by Dance Program Director Alice Bloch, set to music by the Klezmatics. Student work includes jazz, hip hop and lyrical work to music as varied as John Coltrane, Michael Jackson and the Color Blind Symphony.

Senior Angela Kosednar is choreographing an introspective work about diaries to original music by Lindenwood alum Stephen Eric Ketzer, and student Leslie K. Pearce's dance pits dueling ballerinas against tap dancers.

The cast of dancers includes: Yilca Arosmena, Pamela Bastain, Desiree Blanc, Lindsey Calvert, Bonnie Campbell, Christy Cook, Heather Cooley, Elizabeth Curtin, Jennifer Derryberry, Debra DiSimone, Tasha Earle, Ileana Forero, Cleven Ficklen, Erin Halbert, Lacesha Halbert, Joey Hamrick, Michele Hasson, Blain Hogan, Brandi Johnson, Angela Kammermeyer, Kristy Kraemer, Dawn Kumbera, Lori Landwehr, Melissa Lanz, Cassidy Patterson, Leslie K.
