Basketball teams to play at Culver Stockton
February 5, 2001
The Lindenwood University men's and women's basketball teams play tonight at Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO.
This will be the men's first game since an accident Thursday sent eight to the hospital. Two remain hospitalized--assistant coach Scott Allen, and junior forward Dave Soval. Both are in satisfactory condition and should be released from St. John's Mercy Medical Center in the next day or so.
The accident happened on Interstate 70 while the team was en route to Marshall, MO to play Missouri Valley College. One of two Lindenwood vans flipped several times just outside of New Florence, MO. There were no other vehicles in the accident.
The men's and women's games that night were postponed. The men's game Saturday at home against Evangel was postponed as well.
"We're ready to get focused on basketball again," said men's coach Dale Ribble. "We appreciate the support of our women's team and the entire Lindenwood community. And we are ready to move forward thanks to their help."
The Lions are 18-6 and anxious to reach the 20-victory plateau. Ribble said his team "is definitely good enough to make it to the national tournament for the second year in a row."
