Record number of students register for classes
September 3, 2001
More than 5,500 students were on the main campus Monday for the opening day of classes.
Housing officials said Monday they had registered a record 2,250 resident students, just shy of the school's capacity of 2,300.
"We've got room for just a few more residential students," said Director of Admissions John Guffey. "But we are filling up fast, so students will have to act quickly."
Lindenwood opened its 175th year last week with 80 graduate and undergraduate programs and 30 intercollegiate sports. LU remains Missouri's fastest-growing four-year college or university.
One of Lindenwood's fastest-growing programs is teacher education, an area of study that sees 150 graduates annually go on to teaching positions in the region and throughout the state.
