Kamper named Historian in Residence at Boone Home

September 10, 2001

Lindenwood University has hired nationally-recognized Ken Kamper as Resident Boone Historian to serve the Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village. Kamper is one of the leading authorities in the United States on Daniel Boone and the Boone Family.

“Most authors of Boone books seek out his comments and reviews of their manuscripts,” said Jim Gladwin, director of the Historic Daniel Boone Home. “His presence and expertise will be invaluable.”

At Lindenwood’s Boone campus in Defiance, Kamper will act as the primary resource on Boone history. With Lindenwood’s Center for the Study of American Culture and Values, he will supervise upper level and graduate students in primary source research; and writing on Boone topics.

Kamper has researched not only the Boone family, but Missouri frontier history. For more than 20 years, he has pursued nearly all the Boone era (1797-1820) sites and trails.

Kamper, who owners more than 500 Boone history-related books, was a driving forced behind establishing the Daniel Boone Judgment Tree Park in Matson to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Boone’s arrival in Missouri.
