Gary L. Cowger, president of General Motors North America, was the guest speaker May 18 for the 175th commencement ceremony at Lindenwood University. An estimated 6,000 people attended.
Undergraduate and graduate degrees were conferred upon more than 2,200 graduates, making Saturday's the largest commencement ceremony in Lindenwood history.
Cowger is responsible for GM’s North America operations and functions as the global process leader for manufacturing. He has been group vice president in charge of GM manufacturing and labor relations since January 1, 2001.
Dr. Donald Weaver, assistant surgeon general in the U.S. Public Health Service, was the featured speaker for the baccalaureate service Friday, May 17. During the baccalaureate service, Dr. Dorothy “Jodie” Ricketts (B.S., class of 1972) of St. Charles, MO, received the Lindenwood Alumni Merit Award for Professional Accomplishment. The award was presented by Randy Karraker (B.A., class of 1984), a sportscaster with KTRS.
Jennifer McDowell and Susan Lair Hansen spoke for the 2002 graduates during Saturday’s commencement.
