LU officials welcome new track, new track coach

Lane Lohr was introduced Tuesday as the new head track and field and cross country coach at Lindenwood.

Lohr, who has been coaching track for 14 years, spent two years as an assistant at the University of Illinois. He has been teaching physical education at Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School for the past decade.

"Coming to Lindenwood is a wonderful opportunity," said Lohr. "The school is more than 175 years old, but everything is state of the art."

Heavy hitters in the track and field industry weighed in Tuesday with congratulations, Lohr said. Some of the bigger names included pole vault great Jeff Hartwig, as well as Earl Bell and Doug Fraley.

Lohr, who already has been recruiting heavily in the St. Louis area, says he is ready to start working toward Lindenwood's second national championship in track and field. The Lions, under the direction of hall of fame coach John Creer, won the men's indoor national championship in 1998.

Creer, who also serves as Lindenwood athletics director, steps down as track coach.

After introducing Lohr, school officials and visitors toured Lindenwood's new track venue. Creer said the track system installed at LU was "top of the line--something we all will be proud of."

Creer said the venue will be equipped with a FinishLynx automatic photofinish timing system.
