Stephens to receive Emerson Teaching Award


Professor Tom Stephens, a longtime educator and former Superintendent of the Wentzville School District, will receive the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award at a ceremony Nov. 21 at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton.

The award is given each year to a professor who demonstrates outstanding teaching ability, dedication, and enthusiasm. Stephens joined Lindenwood’s faculty in 2002. In addition to instructing undergraduate and graduate courses in education, he serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative, the faculty sponsor for the Troy R-III School District/Lindenwood Campus and is the primary faculty contact person for the Master of Arts in Teaching Program. He is also a member of the University Faculty Strategic Planning Committee.

Stephens earned his Doctorate in Education at St. Louis University. He received a B.S.Ed. in Art from the University of Missouri -Columbia. In 2002, he retired as Superintendent of the Wentzville School District after concluding a career in education that spanned 33 years. He and his wife, Jackie, live in Lake Saint Louis.
