This comedy is set in Edwardian times in a small English coastal village. Willy Carson meets Rose Jones, the girl to whom his drowned friend was engaged and, in the events following the storm, falls in love with her. Bond adds a fantastic subplot about a mad draper who believes there’s to be an invasion from outer space, a gaggle of society women who stage amateur theatricals, and sundry other quirky British characters.
The director of the production is Marsha Parker, dean of Fine and Performing Arts. The student director is Justina Bennett. The Stage Manager is Jane Kohnen. The cast includes Brad Lewandowski, Jamie Fritz, James Lewis, Tom Lehmann, Kim Wibbenmeyer, Kari Lorenz, Michael Howington, Teresa Biter, Michael Lara, Brian Kappler, Erin Klepper, Chris Wilson, and Lizzie Nolen. The set and lighting designer is Donnell Walsh. The sound design is by Drew Matney. The costume coordinater is Shonelle McGill. The properties mistress is Shauna Staryak.
“‘The Sea’ offers everything from deep philosophical discussions to moments of slapstick comedy and everything in between,” Parker said. “This quirky little dark comedy is a true cautionary tale about life, love, duty ... and things that crawl out of the sea.”
