VP Rick Boyle Named Educator of Year

Richard A. Boyle, Ph.D., Lindenwood’s dean of faculty and vice president of human resources, was recently named Educator of the Year by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals. He received the award at a ceremony Thursday, May 10, at the St. Charles Convention Center.

“This is a tremendous honor,” Boyle said. “Any time you are honored by your peers in that fashion, there is just not much you can say but, ‘thank you.’”

The award is presented by the association to someone it feels has had a global impact on education in the St. Louis area. Dr. Jennifer Tiller, president of the association, said members of the group submit nominations for the award and the winner is chosen by a selection committee, who scores the nominees on a set of nine criteria.

“Dr. Boyle was a natural selection because of the great impact he has had on students through his role as an administrator and as an education leader,” said Tiller, who is principal of Sperreng Middle School in the Lindbergh School District.

Boyle is a prolific recruiter for Lindenwood’s teacher education program, and he is well-known for his network of friends throughout the education community in St. Charles County and throughout St. Louis.

Boyle joined the Lindenwood faculty in 1997 as a professor in teacher education. Previously, he worked for 30 years in public education, most of which was in administration. In January of 1998, he was named Lindenwood’s associate dean of education and in 1999 was named dean of education, a post he held until February of this year, when he was named dean of faculty. The title of vice president of human resources was added in February.
