Athletic Trainer Biggerstaff Received National Award

Randy Biggerstaff, head athletic trainer at Lindenwood University, has been named NAIA Head Certified Athletic Trainer of the Year by the National Athletic Trainers Association. The award is the second significant honor for Biggerstaff this year, in which he was also named to the Mid-American Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame.

Biggerstaff, who has been head athletic trainer at Lindenwood since 1997, will receive the award at a ceremony in Anaheim, Calif., on June 28 at the 58th meeting of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Lindenwood plays in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

An athletic trainer for 33 years, Biggerstaff has worked as a trainer in a variety of settings, including high school and professional sports, as a clinic and business owner, and in his current position as Head Athletic Trainer and Athletic Training Program Director for Lindenwood University.

Biggerstaff said he is humbled by the award, for which he was selected by the College and University Athletic Trainer Committee of the NATA.

“It is always exciting when a group of your peers who you respect highly awards you with special recognition,” Biggerstaff said. “It is this kind of relationship that makes athletic training such a special health care field—each person caring not only for themselves but for others in their own profession.”

Biggerstaff is also a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and the Missouri Sports Medicine Hall of Fame.
