Garner Appointed to State Preservation Council

Kacky Garner, director of marketing and business manager for Lindenwood University’s Boone and Weldon Spring campuses, has been named to the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. Garner was appointed to the post by Governor Matt Blunt on Sept. 28.

The council, which is under the umbrella of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, has 12 members, which serve four-year terms. It is responsible for reviewing nominations to the National Registry of Historic Places. The council also reviews and provides advice on the state’s Historic Preservation Plan and provides guidance and advice to the state historic preservation officer. The council is generally comprised of architects, historians, archaeologists and interested laypersons appointed by the governor. Nominations are reviewed by a board of citizens.

As a member, Garner is required to attend four meetings of the council a year; she will attend her first meeting on Nov. 9 in Jefferson City. Her term expires on Nov. 15, 2010. Garner said the appointment is an ideal fit with her job on the historic Boone Home campus.

“I am honored to have been selected by governor Blunt,” Garner said. “Since I will be working with people from all over Missouri, I will have the opportunity to share information about Lindenwood University, as well as to assist in the preservation, protection and integrity of our historic trust here at the Daniel Boone Campus.”
