Lindenwood University has agreed to purchase 65 acres of property north of St. Charles and intends to construct a shooting range for its national champion shooting team. The purchase is contingent on approval of St. Charles County.
The site would include multiple clay target shooting areas for use by the Lindenwood shooting team and open to the public at various times as well. The site is located northeast of St. Charles, north of Wiedey Road and east of Highway 94. The Missouri Department of Conservation must also approve of the range.
The range would provide a practice site close to Lindenwood’s campus for shooting team members, who currently travel five days a week to the St. Louis Skeet and Trap Club in Pacific for their practices. More than 50 students have scholarships through Lindenwood’s shooting program.
In April, the team won its fourth consecutive national intercollegiate clay target championship. The team’s coach is former police officer and Lindenwood faculty member Joseph Steenbergen, who is an assistant professor in the university’s Human Services Division.
