Shaper of Reaganomics to Speak at Lindenwood


Murray L. Weidenbaum, Ph.D., chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors in the Reagan administration, will speak on the current state of the U.S. economy at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, in the Leadership Room of Lindenwood University’s Spellmann Campus Center.

Weidenbaum, who appears as part of the university’s Economic Policy Lecture Series, will present a speech titled, “Challenges Facing the U.S. Economy: Short–and Long–Term Solutions.” The event is free and open to the public.

Weidenbaum was President Ronald Reagan’s first chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors in 1981 and ’82 and was one of the key shapers of the administration’s economic policy, as well as a frequent spokesman on economic and financial issues for the administration.

He was also assistant secretary of the treasury for economic policy in the Nixon administration and has served on the faculty at Washington University since 1964, where he was chairman of the economics department from 1966 to ’69. He is currently the Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor at Washington University.

Prior to coming to Washington University, he was a corporate economist at the Boeing Company. He is currently on the boards of directors for Harbour Group, Macroeconomic Advisors and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
