The Lindenwood University Department of Theatre will close its 2007-2008 Mainstage Season with the Pulizer Prize-winning play “Crimes of the Heart,” by Beth Henley. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on April 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26.
Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and $6 for students (ages 5-18). For reservations, contact the Lindenwood Box Office at 636-979-4878. Group rates are available.
This will be the Theatre Department’s last Mainstage production to be held in Jelkyl Theatre. All future Mainstage productions will be held in Lindenwood’s new Fine and Performing Arts Center, opening in the Fall of 2008.
The scene is Hazlehurst, Miss., where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Warm-hearted, irreverent, zany and brilliantly imaginative, the play teems with humanity and humor as it examines the plight of the three young Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions.
In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.
