McDowell to Introduce ‘A Clockwork Orange’ at Lindenwood Center

September 12, 2008

Actor Malcolm McDowell will introduce a showing of the classic movie “A Clockwork Orange” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, at Lindenwood University’s new Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

The event introduces Lindenwood’s new Charter Communications LUTV high definition studio, which is located in the Lindenwood Center. The event, tickets for which cost $10 for the general public, will be in the center’s 1,200-seat Bezemes Family Theatre. Tickets are available at the Lindenwood Center Box office, 2300 West Clay Street in St. Charles, or by phone at 636-949-4433.

The audience will have the chance to ask McDowell questions about the movie and about his career. Released in 1971, “A Clockwork Orange” was directed by the iconic Stanley Kubrick and was nominated for four Academy Awards, including for best picture and best director. McDowell was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best actor for the picture. The film is commonly thought of as one of Kubrick’s best.

Set in a futuristic Britain, the movie follows Alex (McDowell), the leader of a group of young thugs, as he wends his way through a series of violent and disturbing activities and, ultimately, prison and a questionable rehabilitation program. The film is not suitable for young audience members because of violence, disturbing images and sexual situations.

McDowell has appeared in dozens of other films and television programs, including NBC’s “Heroes,” HBO’s “Entourage,” the 2007 remake of “Time After Time,” “Halloween,” and “Star Trek: Generations,” in which his character kills Captain Kirk.

The LUTV HD studio is just the second high-definition television studio in the St. Louis area. The Lindenwood Center is a $32 million facility, completed in fall 2008, that includes two theatres, the television studio, art galleries, classrooms and offices.

For more information about the film screening, call Peter Carlos, LUTV station manager, at 636-949-4513.
