Modest Tuition Increase Announced

Room, board, tuition, and fees for traditional undergraduate resident students at Lindenwood University will increase just 2.3 percent in the fall of 2009 to $20,360 per year.

Lindenwood’s Board of Directors approved the increase earlier this month. Dr. James D. Evans, president of Lindenwood University, said the increase is an unfortunate necessity because of rising operations costs, some of which are being absorbed by the university.

“We are, of course, mindful that these are difficult economic times for everyone,” Evans said. “Therefore, we have gone with as small an increase as we thought possible under the current situation. Even so, Lindenwood is still a far better bargain than most independent institutions in the area.”

Lindenwood’s increase is equivalent to or below the percentage increases announced at other higher education institutions around the region. According to a recent report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, increases of 4.4 percent, 3 percent and 2 percent are planned at Washington University, Maryville University and St. Louis University.

Undergraduate students in Lindenwood’s adult accelerated program will see a 3.3 percent increase. The cost of a nine-hour cluster of courses will now be $2,790 per quarter. Graduate students in the adult accelerated program will see a 2.8 percent increase to $3,330 per nine-hour cluster.
